SURFSIDE BEACH -- Surfside Beach police and the Horry County Police Department's Bomb Squad spent several hours investigating a suspicious object found on the 700 block of 7th Avenue North Thursday morning.

Surfside Beach police received the call from a 'concerned citizen' around 7 a.m., according to SBPD Chief Mike Frederick.

The HCPD's Bomb Squad robot was used to investigate the object, which was a partially filled plastic bottle, and destroy it.

Horry County's Hazardous Materials Team examined the debris left behind and determined the substance inside the bottle wasn't harmful.

Initial reports indicated that an email threat may have been associated with the placement of the bottle, but police determined the information to be incorrect during their investigation.

The area was closed to traffic for two hours.

The Surfside Beach Fire Department also responded.
