Labor deal with Boeing mutes NLRB challenge talk

(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley stirred a national political debate on the powers of the National Labor Relations Board when it threatened Boeing Co. jobs in North Charleston.

The union votes Wednesday on a tentative labor contract deal with Boeing that is expected to end an NLRB lawsuit.

Haley had previously said there should be no settlement in the dispute. She saw it as an opportunity to limit the powers of the NLRB to challenge where companies bring jobs.

Haley told a crowd at the Heritage Foundation in October that she'd told Boeing not to settle anything. She said Boeing was willing to spend money fighting the NLRB so other companies wouldn't face similar challenges.

Haley now says the contract deal shows South Carolina fights back and wins.
