(AP) -- Top legal and law enforcement officials from South Carolina are meeting in Columbia to discuss drug abuse.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is helping sponsor the South Carolina Drugs of Abuse Seminar that continues on Thursday. The event is hosted by the South Carolina Methamphetamine Action Group.

Organizers say the seminar provides top-notch instruction for state and local law enforcement officers, elected officials, prosecutors, judges and first responders. Objectives include making people more aware of the effects of drugs and also understanding how drug use relates to other crime in South Carolina.

Among those scheduled to address the group are U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles and William Douglas of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
