The widening of Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach is now complete.
In a press release, State Representative Tracy Edge says all lanes are now open.
"Along with the opening of the Robert Edge Parkway this project will have a substantial impact on the daily travel of residents in the North Myrtle Beach area. My goal is ti initiate and complete projects that will have an immediate impact on residents and others travelling through the area," Rep. Edge said.
The $6.1 million dollar project added two lanes, one north bound and one southbound, from 2nd Avenue North to the Cherry Grove exit. It started in 2001.
Rep. Edge says touchup work and landscaping still need to be finished.
But he says now that the new lanes are open, he'll now focus on extending Carolina Bays Parkway around Little River and widening Highway 90.
"These projects take initiative and strong influence to initiate and secure money for their completion. I will continue the same effort and ability as we move toward new projects. My goals are to extend the Parkway around Little River into North Carolina as part of the Interstate 74 system and to widen Highway 90," said Edge.
