Betty Jones, Florence County Detention Center
Betty Jones, age 70, of Lynchburg, South Carolina, was arrested Tuesday and charged with Unlawful Neglect of a Child.
The Florence County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a call about a small child left in a car in a parking lot of a business on South Irby Street.
Deputies found a 10-month-old inside the car.
They say the 10-month-old was in the front seat of the car in a child carrier and was sweating profusely in the 80 degree direct sunlight. They found the 5-year-old sibling in the parking lot.
The sheriff's office says deputies found Jones inside the store and learned she was babysitting the children.
According to a news release, investigators believe the kids were alone in the car for an extended period of time. They believe the 5-year-old was inside the store with Jones but then came out without her.
Both children were turned over to their mother, who was at work at the time of the incident.
