Horry County showed the public how it uses its GIS, or Geographic Information System technology at an event Wednesday.
The GIS includes real-time maps of voting districts, property owners and delinquent tax districts. Tim Oliver works with the GIS every day. He says, "In the past, all that was done on printed maps and we're constantly printing them and they next day, they'd change."
Now maps can be updated online.
The department also has mobile applications for cell phones to make things easier for people in professions like real estate.
The public is also welcome to use the technology, just click here to get to the county's site.
