The terms of his position end in six months, but Horry County Council is discussing whether to renew his contract now.
During a council meeting Tuesday night, Horry County Administrator, John Weaver, will see if council members want to renew his existing contract. Last year, county council members voted Weaver to take over the position permanently.
Weaver was most recently in the news as the person responsible for conducting the internal investigation into recent allegations against the Horry County Police Department.
The allegations of police misconduct surfaced in an unsigned letter sent to Horry County Council.
Weaver said his investigation disproved all but one of the allegations that stated money and drugs often disappear from the evidence room.
Council member Gary Loftus says the timing of Weaver's contract review and the allegations against Horry County police is a coincidence.
"If you're talking about an anonymous letter, I almost refuse to comment on something that nobody signs, but no I don't see any connection between the two at all," said Loftus. "It's not unusual to do it 3 or 4 months in advance because we have budget coming up in April, and we'll be hammering that because of the short revenues. So why not go at it now? and whatever will be will be?"
Loftus said he is in favor of Weaver's job as county administrator to this point.
Weaver's office had no comment on the discussion of his contract renewal.
The Horry County Council meeting will be held at the county's Government and Justice Center in Conway. It begins at 6 p.m. The executive session to discuss Weaver's contract will come at the end.
Media is not allowed into executive sessions, but NewsChannel 15's will have a team there to report on anything that comes out of the meeting, including Weaver's contract. That story will be in your news at 11.
