Dr. Nathaniel Miller, who was sentenced to six years in prison last month for stealing more than $500,000 from the Mullins school district, has now been arrested by the South Carolina Department of Revenue on five counts of willful attempt to evade income taxes.
Miller began taking the money from Marion School District 2, the Mullins district, in 2006, not long after he was hired as the district's superintendent.
Before that, he worked for Richland County School District 1.
The SC Department of Revenue says Miller failed to accurately report income received during 2005 - 2009 as required by law.
The SCDOR says between 2005 - 2009, Miller reported a total gross income of $593,342 with $3,953 in taxes due to the state.
According to a news release from SCDOR, their investigation of Miller's bank account showed deposits that significantly exceeded his known income.
Investigators say Miller's taxable amount of unreported income for 2005 - 2009 totals $625,609.99 with a South Carolina tax liability of $41,684.90.
If convicted, Miller could face up to 25 years in prison and/or $50,000 in fines.
Miller is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
