Marion County Combined Drug Unit agents arrested two people in connection with the sale of bath salts.
Prana V. Sheth and Jignesh V. Patel were taken into custody after an agent bought bath salts from inside the 3 Way EPCO Food Mart on Liberty Street in Marion. Both live in Myrtle Beach.
According to a news release, agents seized drug related paraphernalia, several packages of bath salts and K2, a brand of synthetic marijuana.
Last month the board that oversees the state Department of Health and Environmental Control made bath salts and fake pot illegal.
Sheth faces three charges including Possession With Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Substance. Patel faces four charges including Distribution of a Controlled Substance within proximity of a school. Officials say Patel is also an undocumented worker.
"The Marion County Combined Drug Unit is committed to making Marion County a safer place. Bath Salts are very dangerous and destructive drugs that have no place in Marion County," said Unit Director Lt. Brian Wallace. "Drug Unit Agents visited 48 stores throughout Marion County, including this store, on October 28, 2011 to check for Bath Salts and to advise store owners that Bath Salts are now illegal."
