BENNETTSVILLE -- A Marlboro County woman and her boyfriend will stay in jail until their case goes to trial.

They're charged with homicide by child abuse in the death of the woman's 3-year-old daughter, Edna Trinity Hunt last month.

James Jacobs is Edna's grandfather. He has a lot of unanswered questions about her death.

"Why and how come the child was done the way it was done."

James stood in court Thursday morning, asking a judge to deny bond for Mike Huckabee. Police have charged Huckabee and Edna's mother, Atelia Hunt, with homicide by child abuse.

"It was hard to take. It was just seeing him. It was hard knowing the way the child had been done and the abuse," he told us.

Autopsy results are still pending, but officers say Edna had burns and bruises all over her body. Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown showed the judge the graphic pictures of Edna's injuries.

"It's the worst case of child abuse that I've ever, excuse me, that I've ever been involved with," Brown said.

The pictures were not shown to the media.

Fourth Circuit Solicitor Will Rogers says the little girl was tortured before she died, but he would not say how.

"As you can tell from what was stated at the bond hearing, this is a very very serious matter and it will be prosecuted as such."

The judge denied Huckabee's bond, calling him a danger to society.

Jacobs is pleased, but only wishes he could see his granddaughter one more time. "She was a sweet, loving child. She was, she liked to play, liked to swing. She liked to ride her four wheeler."

Bond was also denied for Atelia Hunt, the child's mother.
