FLORENCE -- The smoke-free ordinance that Florence City Council passed in May will go into effect Tuesday, November 1st.
The ordinance bans smoking in public places, including restaurants and bars.
Work shop areas and designated employee smoking areas that are not open to the public are excluded.
City officials say the ordinance will protect children, workers and citizens from the dangers of secondhand smoke.
Leaders with Smoke Free Florence supported the ban saying 800 people die each year in South Carolina from exposure to second hand smoke.
Anyone caught smoking in a public place will be fined between $10 and $25.
