State Representative Alan Clemmons has announced he will not run for the 7th Congressional District Seat, ending over a year of speculation that he would.

"It's a decision that my family and I have been deliberating on for a long time," said Clemmons. "It's truly in the best interest of my family."

Clemmons was essential in creating the congressional district that connects the Pee Dee with the Grand Strand. He served as the Chairman of the State House Redistricting Subcommittee.

State Rep. Thad Viers (R), Myrtle Beach attorney Parnell Diggs (D) and Mande Wilkes (R), who ran against State Rep. Nelson Hardwick two years ago, have announced they will run for the 7th Congressional District Seat.

The new district lines are still waiting approval from the U.S. Justice Department.
