(AP) -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry's campaign has filed paperwork and paid a $35,000 fee to get on the first-in-the-South presidential primary ballot.

Perry's campaign paid the filing fee Thursday to the South Carolina Republican Party.

GOP executive director Matt Moore said U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmamn's husband will file her paperwork on Friday. Meanwhile, Moore said former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich will give his paperwork to the state GOP's chairman in Greenville on Friday.

The filing deadline is next week, but no other candidates are expected to file. That would leave nine candidates on the South Carolina GOP primary ballot on Jan. 21.

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has filed but has left the race and wants to be removed from the ballot.
