Florence City fire chief Randall Osterman says one of his firefighters violated a key safety issue Tuesday night, when he left a pot on the stove.

Chief Osterman says the firefighter walked outside for a minute and when he came back inside, the kitchen cabinets were covered in flames at Fire Station Three on South Edisto Drive.

He got help from two other firefighters to douse the fire.

Chief Osterman doesn't have a dollar amount on the damage, but he says the kitchen will have to be remodeled.

He says how they address the firefighter's actions will not be made public because it is a personnel matter.
