NewsChannel 15 has obtained a criminal arrest record from the State Law Enforcement Division on Ernest Lee Russell, Junior.
His arrest record shows he was out of jail on bond for charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and commit or attempt lewd act on a child.
Those charges were still pending at the time of Russell's death.
Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Bird says officers from the Darlington County Combined Drug Unit had a warrant to search a store on South Main Street in Darlington last week because they believed Russell was running a gambling operation out of the store.
Bird says when they went inside shots were fired. Russell was shot and killed.
State police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
