(AP) -- President Barack Obama says remaining U.S. troops in Iraq will be home by the end of the year.
"After nine years, Americas war in Iraq will be over," says President Obama. All troops will be out of Iraq by the end of this year.
It would have taken a request from the Iraqi government to keep troops there beyond that point.
Obama says he spoke today to Iraq's prime minister, who spoke of the need for the Iraqi people to "forge their own future."
