(AP) -- The head of the South Carolina Department of Transportation says he expects to receive another cash advance from the federal government next summer to help the agency add projects and continue to pay contractors on time.
Transportation Secretary Robert St. Onge said Thursday the Federal Highway Administration has already agreed to provide a second cash infusion next year. A $52 million advance in August allowed the agency to catch up on its bills after contractors complained.
St. Onge says the agency has $71 million on hand, and $95 million in invoices. He says only $15 million of that is approaching the 30-working-days window, and those bills will be paid by Friday.
