Lamar police arrested Jeffery Nicholas Cox, 21, of Ft. Lawn Tuesday night.
Kershaw County deputies say they clocked Cox going 99 mph on Interstate 20 Tuesday. They say when they went to stop the vehicle, Cox kept going into Lee County.
They say Cox's vehicle blew a tire near mile marker 122. He ran into a wooded area near the Lynches River. Both deputies and K-9s searched for Cox into the night.
Deputies called the State Law Enforcement Division for a helicopter and a bloodhound team.
Just after 10 p.m., deputies got a report that a person matching the description of Cox was seen at the Marquette convenience store in Lamar. Lamar Police Chief Charles Woodle and a Darlington County deputy were near the store and arrested Cox. They say he was barefoot, cold, wet and scratched up from running through briars.
Cox will be charged with failure to stop for a blue light, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, expired tags, violation of the ABC laws and speeding 99 in a 70 miles per hour zone. Deputies say he is out on parole for a burglary conviction.
He will be turned over to the Cayce Department of Public Safety for the assault charges pending on him in Cayce. Cox is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
