Smoke Free Horry's new Education and Resource Center
Smoke Free Horry held the grand opening today for its new Education and Resource Center at the Myrtle Beach Mall.
The ceremony honored those who contributed over the past six months. They also celebrated the completion of the 100% Tobacco Free Policy for Horry County schools.
The center aims to educate adults, especially young adults, about the risks of tobacco. Pauline Levesque is the youth coordinator for Smoke Free Horry and she says "everyday the tobacco industry is trying to reach the future customers and, unfortunately, their targeting our young people through advertising and other means."
The goal of the center is to educate on "all forms of addictive tobacco."
For those who want to quit smoking, the center will provide brochures, numbers to call, counseling, and nicotine replacement therapy. All benefits are covered under grants the center has received.
The group plans to continue to visit events throughout the county to spread the word.
