(AP) -- The Department of Natural Resources has announced that the season for harvesting clams and oysters along the state's coast opens on Oct. 1.

The season for both commercial and recreational harvesting continues through next May 15.

Shellfish harvesters may gather oysters and clams in designated areas from a half-hour before sunrise until a half-hour after sundown.

The department manages 24 public shellfish grounds along the coast that are marked with boundary signs.
