NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -The Chesapeake Health Education Program has operated a drug and alcohol addiction treatment program since 1998, with more than 2,000 homeless veterans living in old base housing over the years.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Monday that the property was taken over by South Carolina Public Railways after a developer for the old base went into foreclosure.
Chesapeake director Melissa Kelly says the program will consolidate operations at a location off the old base property. Kelly says the program would have to have signed a lease costing several thousand dollars in order to stay. The program had paid only insurance and maintenance costs.
