Soldier Visits Middle School
 / Mallory Nicholls
The sixth and seventh graders of North Myrtle Beach Middle School had a special treat Monday when a 20-year-old soldier visited their classes.
Private First Class Jacob Eberly, spoke with the students on the responsibilities of being in the Army Honor Guard in Washington D.C. Eberly says that he always knew he wanted to be in the military. As soon as he was able to join, he did.
Eberly spent about an hour with the children and talked all about his 17 month reign in the Army. As part of the Honor Guard, he participated in the firing party, twenty-one gun salutes, and escorted funerals at Arlington National Cemetery.
He is now a part of the Caisson Platoon, which is a specialty in the Honor Guard. The platoon introduces wounded warriors to horses as a form of therapy. Eberly says that his "favorite part is the location being in Washington DC and being able to play with horses." He loves his job and has a lot of fun.
His sister, Faith, is a sixth grader at North Myrtle Beach Middle School and was in attendance for his presentation today. His parents and grandparents were there also.
