RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Gov. Beverly Perdue says 15 more North Carolina counties are eligible for federal disaster assistance, meaning families and business owners in those counties can seek low-interest loans or grants to help them recover from Hurricane Irene.
The counties added Sunday day are: Gates, Hertford, Johnston, Northampton, Vance, Bertie, Brunswick, Camden, Chowan, Duplin, Edgecombe, Martin, New Hanover, Pasquotank and Perquimans.
That means 33 North Carolina counties have been approved for individual assistance.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency provides two types of assistance. Individual assistance aids families and businesses, while public assistance helps with community recovery costs, such as clearing debris and repairing public facilities.
In the past few days, 29 counties have been approved for public assistance.
