Putnam wins special SC House election

(AP) -- Republican Joshua Putnam has been elected to a vacant seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives.

Unofficial returns show the Republican from Powdersville got 83 Unofficial returns show the Republican from Powdersville got 83 percent of the vote against Constitution Party candidate Dave  Ballard of Williamston in Tuesday's voting. 

There was no Democrat in the race.

Putnam fills the seat given up by Piedmont Rep. Dan Cooper at the end of the last legislative session.

The 22-year-old Putnam becomes the youngest member of the House.

Only about 1,200 of the 23,000 registered voters in the district took part in Tuesday's voting.
