Horry County police charged Billy Joe Jones, 32, with Filing a False Police Report.
Police say Jones called them about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday saying a woman had just shot at him and was chasing him through a cornfield.
When officers arrived at the home on Ida Lane, they found Jones inside. Their investigation showed he never left the house, was never shot at and was with other people at all times.
Jones is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
