Georgia Billings was reported missing on June 26th.
Georgia Billings, 66, was reported missing on June 26th and has been missing since.
Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley says dental records were used to identify the remains found in a car last Friday as those of Billings.
Grimsley says he isn't sure about a cause of death. He says an investigation is ongoing by the Dillon Police Department and the Dillon County Sheriff's Office.
Last Friday, a farmer found Billings' 2004 Chevy Cavalier in a corn field on Bowling Green Loop. Billings' body was inside.
Detectives had searched that area before but say the tall corn stalks hid the car.
They believe it was there for seven weeks - ever since Billings disappeared.
Police processed the car for evidence.
Officers say Billings brother-in-law, Thomas Cooper, reporter her missing back in June. They say Cooper told them the family was concerned because she just got out of the hospital and had been saying strange things like, " I have no one to help me."
In an interview with NewsChannel 15 last month, Billings' son, James Bethea, said his mother's disappearance had left him stunned.
"I'm worried because it's my mom and I love her and I barely get sleep," Bethea said.
Billings' church, Bethel AME Church, offered a $500 dollar reward for information leading to her whereabouts. No word on what will happen to that reward money.
Police say this case will remain open until they determine if Billings' death was natural or if there was criminal involvement.
