GEORGETOWN COUNTY -- The U.S. Coast Guard says it rescued two overdue boaters who were on a 15-foot Jon boat fishing in small creeks.

Frances Zuhcer, 56, and David Cusack, 28, had filed a float plan with their families and when the two failed to return, their families contacted the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard began looking for the boaters around 9 p.m. Tuesday using a 25-foot response boat-small, and an Air Facility Charleston MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources also participated in the search.

The Coast Guard says Zuhcer and Cusak were found in a secluded marsh near Georgetown by the helicopter crew shortly after midnight.

The chopper needed to refuel, so it lowered a rescue swimmer who stayed with the men until it returned. The boaters were lifted into the helicopter and taken to Georgetown Airport to be picked up by their families.

The Coast Guard recommends all boaters file float plans with friends and family. You can click here to download a Coast Guard approved float plan.
