(AP) -- Medal of Honor recipients and members of the Army's oldest unit are in South Carolina to pay respects to Medal of Honor recipient Col. Charles Murray Jr.

The 89-year-old Murray died Friday in Columbia. His funeral is Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church downtown.

Murray received the Medal of Honor in World War II for single-handedly stopping an attack on U.S. troops by 200 Germans.

He was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division at the time, and soldiers from its present-day forces are leading the funeral procession to the church.

Murray later commanded the Army's oldest active duty unit, the Old Guard. It is providing a horse-drawn caisson for the service.

The unit escorts funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, where Murray will be laid to rest.
