Hundreds of surfers will fill parts of Surfside Beach this weekend. The Guy Daniels Memorial Surfoff is an all ages friendly competition that takes place over two days.
The surfoff is held for Guy Daniels, a Surfside man who passed away after collapsing on the beach in 1999. He was only a sophomore in college.
Jim Daniels, Guy's father, said that his son loved the ocean, was a competitive surfer, and always set big goals for himself.
"For example, he wanted to buy a jeep. So he started not only saving money, but cut the picture of a jeep out of a magazine and then posed his picture into the jeep so that he would have a visual," Daniels said.
The surfoff will continue Sunday starting at 9:00a.m. The majority of the money raised by the surfoff will go to fund five $1,000 scholarships to local students.
