Starting Wednesday, you could register in Horry County to move and sell metals like copper.

There are two kinds of permits; a one year, and a 48 hour permit for people who plan to sell the metals no more than twice a year.

You have to show an ID to get a permit, but they are free.

People who want to buy copper or catalytic converters have to buy a $200 permit, good for two years.

Corporal Steve Causey with the Horry County Sheriff's Office says, "I don't know that anything could ever stop thefts occuring. But we are putting things in place to be able to track who's selling"

If you'd like a permit to buy or sell copper, contact you local sheriff's office.
