Wednesday night's Powerball drawing is worth about $220 million. That puts it in the top ten Powerball jackpots of all time.
"A jackpot run is unbelievably exciting for the Education Lottery and its players," said the Lottery's Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea in a press release. "We want to remind everyone to please play responsibly."
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 195,249,054.
It's been two years since someone from South Carolina won Powerball. Solomon Jackson Jr. won a $259.9 million Powerball® jackpot in August 2009.
"I know I will be watching Wednesday night's drawing with my fingers crossed hoping a South Carolinian will be holding that winning ticket," said Bethea. "Obviously the winner benefits, but so does the state when a jackpot-winning ticket is sold here."
"When you spend an extra $1 for a ticket, even if you don't win, education always wins," added Bethea.
