The Horry-Georgetown Counties Chamber Coalition welcomed a host of professionals to speak at Business in Blue Jeans: A Marketing Conference for 2011.
More than 100 people met at Coastal Carolina University's Wall Auditorium to learn about hiring, training, creating a networking strategy, storytelling and marketing.
"I'm just wanting some more information about the business that I'm in and advancing to get people to be interested in us," Joan Wood, Executive Director of Senior Centers of Cherokee County, said.
Wood is interested in learning the secrets and strategies of using LinkedIn effectively and how to make marketing work for small businesses.
"i'm just trying to learn more. I don't Twitter yet. I don't use LinkedIn, but I'm going to now," Wood added.
And that's really the point of the conference, to learn new tools necessary for capitalizing on the opportunities presented by emerging media.
Trey Pennington is a marketing pro, story teller for business and an international speaker. He showed the audience how to use media to build meaningful connections online and off.
"I'm hoping that when people leave today that they will have a confidence and degree of excitement about engaging with real people online and using the incredible tools that are out there. It gives small businesses the same power that used to be reserved for big businesses a generation ago," Pennington said.
Conway, Georgetown County, Little River, Loris, Myrtle Beach Area, North Myrtle Beach, Quality Inn of Conway and Coastal Carolina University's E. Craig Wall, Sr. College of Business Administration are part of the Coalition.
