The Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. and Myrtle Beach National Company have signed a letter of intent to join Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management.

Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management is a Burroughs & Chapin subsidiary that manages golf courses along the Grand Strand, with Myrtle Beach National Company's golf assets.

According to a news release, this new partnership creates a "golf course ownership and management company that will be one of the top 20 largest golf course companies in the nation."

The news release goes on to say, "Burroughs & Chapin and Myrtle Beach National will be equal partners in the new venture, which will initially have 24 golf courses at 20 golf facilities under its umbrella.

"As one of the largest owners and managers of golf courses in the country, our new company will have a distinct competitive advantage as we look to expand our activities beyond the Grand Strand," said Jim Apple, president and chief executive officer of Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc.

"Over the last few years, Burroughs & Chapin and Myrtle Beach National have amassed an impressive group of talented individuals and, by consolidating our considerable strengths, we'll be able to offer services that will elevate and enhance the quality of the golf experience for consumers."

The new company's portfolio of courses will include many that are ranked among America's best courses by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, as well as among the Top 20 on the Grand Strand. These include King's North, Grande Dunes, Pine Lakes, Tidewater and Pawleys Plantation. "We are excited about the possibilities ahead," said Matthew Brittain, chief executive officer of Myrtle Beach National Company.

"By joining forces, we'll be able to realize efficiencies and economies of scale. We'll expand the range of golf course choices we can offer. We'll have more geographical diversity and a wider choice of price points. This is a win-win for both our companies and, I believe, for the golf consumer, and we expect to become the first choice for golfers seeking a great golf experience."
