COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Legislators hope to adopt a compromise version of a new map for U.S. House seats that includes a new seventh district.

The House and Senate will be back in Columbia Tuesday to discuss redistricting.

Redistricting is required every decade to make sure political lines reflect population changes. South Carolina picked up a new seat because it gained population in the 2010 Census.

The House and Senate passed starkly different proposals last month. The House wanted the new 7th District anchored in Horry and Florence counties in the state's northeast corner.

But the plan the Senate approved places the new district in the lower half of the state stretching from Georgetown to Beaufort and Jasper counties.
