North Myrtle Beach City Council is talking about passing a law to regulate how towing companies are chosen.
Right now, the police department has a rotation list of which towing companies to use.
Council discussed whether they wanted to turn that rotation list policy into an ordinance. They also are looking at capping towing rates from private property and setting fines and jail time for companies in violation of a towing ordinance.
The council is expected to vote on a first reading of that proposed law at their meeting next Monday.
Council met in executive session to talk about a potential property acquisition and a legal briefing on former Public Safety Director William Bailey, but did not comment on those matters.
