Detectives with the Horry County police are looking for a Longs man wanted in connection with a kidnapping and sexual assault.
Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for Horry County police, says around 3 a.m. July 1st, officers responded to the area of Old Chesterfield Road in the Longs area for a report of a woman screaming for help on 9-1-1. Because the woman didn't give an address, police had to use latitude and longitude coordinates of the cell signal.
When police found the woman, she was crying and in the company of Lamarcus Decarlos Vereen, 26.
Police say she expressed fear of Vereen and told officers, "Please get him."
Police say they gave verbal commands to Vereen, which went ignored. They say despite being tased, Vereen ran into the woods and they were unable to locate him.
According to Sgt.Kegler, the woman said she was in the car with Vereen after they left a nearby bar. She said Vereen told her to pull onto a dirt path, which she refused to do. She told police he pulled a handgun on her, sexually assaulted her and struck her several times.
