Myrtle Beach mother and her boyfriend are in jail after a one-year-old suffered a broken leg.

Valentin Mendez, 25, and Brittany Wimberly, 19, are each charged with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child.

Mendez is also charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

According to a police report, doctors at the emergency room were suspicious about how Wimberly's one-year-old son broke his leg.

The report says Mendez couldn't stand the child's crying and began shaking him, then intentionally dropped him on the floor, breaking his leg.

The report says he then put the one-year-old and a three-year-old in the closet and told Wimberly to leave them in there for 45 minutes, and he went to work.

Wimberly told police after 45 minutes she let them out and realized something was wrong with the one-year-old's leg.

The one- and three-year-old were taken into emergency protective custody.
