(AP) -- North Carolina shoppers will have a little more cash in their wallets now that a two-year temporary sales tax increase has ended. But gassing up the car will claim some of those savings.
The sales tax on most goods purchased fell by a penny on Friday.
The base rate is now 6.75 percent. A few counties have a slightly higher tax.
More than 30 laws take effect in full or in part on Friday, the first day of the new fiscal year. Among them is a new budget that required spending cuts to make up for the lost temporary revenue.
The state gasoline tax rose automatically by 2.5 cents per gallon to 35 cents. Prices at the North Carolina Zoo and state transportation museum also have gone up.
