Florence man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for killing a man.

In April of 2007, police say James Andrew Perry shot and killed Antonio Martin, 19, on Stackley Street.

He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

The prosecutor said according to witness testimony to police, Martin first approached Perry in an attempt to rob him and they struggled over a gun. Perry got the gun and shot Martin in the back, killing him.

The judge also sentenced Perry to 10 years on an unrelated drug charge.

Both sentences will run at the same time.
