FLORENCE, SC -- Deputies discovered the bodies of two women during a welfare check. Captain Mike Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff's Office says they got a call to do a welfare check at a home on Nicklaus Court in the Country Club Of South Carolina, around 9:22 Saturday evening. Nunn says once inside they found the bodies.
Deputies immediately began processing the crime scene for evidence and gathering clues. Officers circled yellow crime scene tape around the home, as they walked the grounds looking for footprints or tire tracks. They're treating the case as a homicide.
A few neighbors gathered near the scene, but didn't say much. Many of them were shocked saying nothing this tragic has ever happened in their community. Several of the homes in the Country Club of South Carolina are valued at more than a half a million dollars.
Florence County Coroner Bubba Matthews and his deputy coroner, Don Reynolds, worked the crime scene. Matthews expects an autopsy to reveal how the women were killed and how long their bodies had been in the home. The results should be in Monday afternoon.
At this time, the victims names aren't being released until their next of kin is notified. Deputies have not said if they have a person of interest or suspect in the killings. We're told more information will be released in this investigation later Sunday afternoon.
