Along the Grand Strand more than 45 golf courses are allowing kids 16 and younger to play for free when they are accompanied by a paying adult.

The Kids Play Free program is an attempt to introduce the game to young people with the hopes they'll become lifelong fans.

Chris King with Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday says those who take advantage of the deal get the opportunity to spend uninterrupted quality time with their child and still have time for the beach.

"Golf is a game that teaches you a lot about character about patience about perseverance and you know I think it's just a great way to develop that bond between a parent and the child."

King goes on to say the program is increasing in popularity and it's been in place for 24 years
