U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says Michael Angelo Alexander, 46, of Salisbury, NC, pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy to commit bank fraud

United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten of Florence, SC will sentence Alexander after reviewing a presentence report.

Nettles says Alexander and his co-defendant, Carlton Tomlinson, cashed counterfeit commercial checks in Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Georgetown, totaling more than$90,000.

Alexander said he and other homeless individuals were recruited to cash the checks by two unidentified individuals who would drive them to banks to cash the checks so the unidentified individuals would not be photographed by bank cameras.
