The final phase of construction started on the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel Wednesday.
The wheel didn't open until 1 p.m. so crews could start installing two giant hubs with LED lights on the center of the wheel. The hubs are meant to add to the nightly LED show.
Construction on this part of the SkyWheel is expected to last a week. During that time, the ride will be open from 1 p.m. to midnight.
The SkyWheel is said to be the largest ferris wheel east of the Mississippi River.
