MYRTLE BEACH - The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday at 26th Avenue South.
Sgt. Phillip Cain says someone walking on the beach saw two swimmers in distress calling for help.
One was able to make it to shore, but the other male is still missing.
Cain says the missing man is a 25-year-old from North Carolina who was in town with his friend for vacation.
Myrtle Beach police immediately searched by boat and jet skis.
The U.S. Coast Guard also performed an aerial search.
First thing Sunday morning Myrtle Beach police and the Department of Natural Resources resumed their search for the man.
