COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The University of South Carolina students will likely be paying more this fall.

The State newspaper of Columbia reports Saturday that the executive committee of the university board unanimously recommended a 3.9 percent tuition increase for the school's main campus.

The full board is expected to discuss the proposal at its June 30 meeting.

The recommendation calls for in-state students at the Columbia campus to pay $191 more this fall, for a total of $5,084. Out-of-state students would pay $495 more, a total of $13,176.

Tuition at the university's School of Medicine could increase by 6.25 percent, and pharmacy students could pay an additional 5 percent.

The proposed hikes are in line with those at other public colleges in South Carolina.

Clemson University has approved a 3.8 percent increase.
