ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say an Anderson mother was charged with child neglect after her three young children were found locked in a bedroom without air conditioning or fans for 10 hours while she went to work.

Anderson County deputies said a Department of Social Services worker found the children, ages 1, 3, and 4, when she went to check on them earlier this week.

Sheriff John Skipper says the temperature in the home was 93 degrees and the children had no food. They could get water from a bathroom connected to the bedroom.

Deputies charged 24-year-old Charlena Brown with three counts of unlawful neglect of a child. She remains in the Anderson County jail. It wasn't clear if she had an attorney.

Her children are in protective custody.
