South Carolina's nine Welcome Centers across the state will be back to a full work week, as in every single day of the week.
The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (SCPRT) announced that the visitors centers will resume a seven day a week schedule for visitor services.
"Our Welcome Centers create an important first impression of our state for millions of visitors each year," SCPRT Director Duane Parrish said in a press release. "For that reason one of my first commitments to Governor Nikki Haley was to get the nine centers open again seven days a week. I am pleased to announce that beginning July 1st, that goal will be met."
Tourism officials have shown concern over the fact that budget constraints left the majority of the center's being closed two days a week by former Governor Mark Sanford's administration.
Officials say that when the centers resume their seven day a week schedule, new services will be provided to visitors, including free WiFi, an advertising program that will allow tourism partners to reach travelers seeking travel assistance and information in the centers.
