The South Carolina Senate leader who successfully sued Gov. Nikki Haley to block her call for lawmakers to return to work is calling on senators to take up her favored legislation when they return to Columbia next week.
Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell asked senators Wednesday to amend the law that dictates what they can consider when they return for a wrap-up session.
Haley wants legislators to pass a bill that gives her more control of the state's day-to-day operations. Adding the bill to legislators' limited session will require two-thirds approval from each chamber.
Haley ordered lawmakers to return to Columbia to pass that bill and three others. The state Supreme Court ruled her order was unconstitutional.
McConnell has said he favors the legislation, but not the governor's tactics.
