South Carolina House members have cut money for public schools and added it to a business bailout on unemployment taxes as they agreed to a final version of a $6 billion spending plan.
The House's changes to the budget Thursday mean a conference committee will work out differences between the House and Senate versions.
The biggest differences involved how to use $210 million from faster-than-expected revenue growth.
The Senate mostly split that money between schools and reducing tax increases that businesses face as the state repays federal unemployment loans.
The House put $146 million into the business tax break and reduced the cash for spending in schools by $50 million.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Cooper said businesses generate taxes to pay for schools.
