The North Carolina biker who died after he was hit by an SUV over the weekend failed to yield right of way, according to the Myrtle Beach Police report.
Elbert Mitchell III, 39, was traveling westbound on Highway 501 approaching Robert Grissom Parkway around 9:50 p.m. Saturday. The report says the light was green when the driver of a Jeep attempted to make a left turn at the intersection. The report says the Jeep struck Mitchell's motorcycle after he failed to yield right of way.
The driver of the Jeep told police it happened so fast he couldn't avoid a collision.
The Horry County Coroner says Mitchell was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he died from internal injuries suffered in the accident.
South Carolina Highway Patrol and Myrtle Beach Police are investigating.
